Seasoned ground beef patties covered in a delicious brown gravy with caramelized onions and mashed potatoes on the side make this a perfect home cooked meal. In the video below, I doubled the gravy recipe which ended up being way too much so I put the regular gravy measurements in the recipe description. I used my favorite non-stick non-toxic pan to cook these in.
You can find my mashed potatoes recipe here.
Here are the kitchen items I used for this recipe.

SALISBURY STEAK AND GRAVY
Seasoned ground beef steak patties with a delicious brown gravy and caramelized onions.
Ingredients
FOR THE STEAKS
- 1.5 lb Ground Beef
- 2 Tbsp Minced onion (I took a quarter of an onion and shredded it through a cheese grater.
- 1 Egg
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Italian Seasoning
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Dry Ground Mustard
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 1/2 cup Bread Crumbs
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil for the pan (I use grapeseed oil which is good for high heat cooking)
FOR THE GRAVY
- 2 Tbsp Butter
- 1 small Onion (chopped into long pieces)
- 2.5 cups Beef Broth
- 2-3 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
CORNSTARCH SLURRY
- 2 Tbsp Cornstarch
- 2 Tbsp Cold water
Instructions
FOR THE STEAKS
- In a large mixing bowl combine all the ingredients for the steaks and mix together by hand. Do not over mix or it will make the meat tough.
- Then form into patties and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large frying pan, and cook the patties 5-8 minutes each side or until they are no longer pink.
- Once they are done, remove the patties to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
FOR THE GRAVY
- Put the butter in the pan and scrape up anything stuck to the pan as it melts.
- Once melted, add in the chopped onion and cook them until translucent or soft.
- Add in the beef broth, Worcestershire Sauce, Ketchup, Salt, and Pepper.
- Bring to a simmer.
- In a separate small bowl, mix together the cornstarch slurry until smooth.
- Pour it into the gravy while whisking continuously. Turn off the heat as soon as it thickens.
- Add the patties back into the gravy. Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans. Enjoy!
