Pot Roast and Gravy
Tender Pot Roast and Gravy slow cooked in the oven.
Ingredients
Roast
- 4 lb chuck roast
- 2-3 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp steak seasoning
- 1/4 cup worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup bbq sauce (any kind)
- 1 large onion (diced)
Gravy
- 1-2 packets of brown gravy mix *see notes
- 1-1 1/2 cups water *see notes
Instructions
- In a large 6 qt dutch oven pot, melt the butter. Add the roast, seasonings, worcestershire sauce, bbq sauce, and brown the roast for a few minutes on each side.
- Put the lid on the pot and put it in the oven at 300 degrees. Cook for 1 hour and then check the liquid level. You want the liquid to be at least halfway up the thickness of the roast. If there is not enough, add some water. Then return to the oven and cook for another two hours.
- Take the roast out of the oven and check the tenderness of the beef. You should be able to easily pull it apart with tongs. If it's not tender enough, return the oven for another 30 minutes.
- When the roast is done, take the meat out and place it on a cutting board or plate.Put the pot on the stove and turn the stove on. Bring the liquid to a boil.
- Put the pot on the stove and turn the stove on. Bring the liquid to a boil.
- Meanwhile, mix the packet of gravy in a small bowl with 1 cup of water. Then whisk the gravy into the pot of liquid on the stove. It will thicken after a minute or two. If you want it thicker, add another half cup of water and gravy packet. Turn off the heat as soon as it's thick enough.

Roast*
Adjust the recipe according to the weight of your roast. A smaller roast, put a little less ingredients. My roast was large at 4lbs. Also, mine turned out a little too salty, which we don’t mind, but I would put less salt then I did in the video. I adjusted the measurements in the ingredient list.
Gravy*ย
If you have a lot of liquid in the pot once the gravy is done, only add half a cup of water with the gravy mix.ย If there isn’t much liquid, then add 1 cup.ย This part I just do to my discretion.ย It will depend on if you like a thick or thick gravy.
